2020 Summit Print Competition
Yes, this is actually a PRINT competition, so there will be no digital submissions. We believe in the power of a print and want to share the excitement of seeing your work printed in large format with everyone we can. If you have never entered a print competition, this is a great place to start! Don't worry about different levels of experience, you are really competing with yourself to encourage growth. Here are the basics and the guidelines:
The deadline for entering the print competition will be October 23rd. All print competition entries will be submitted to f/32 Photo for printing and mounting. We want all prints to be consistent, so f/32 Photo will be printing all of the entries and mounting them on gator foam for display and judging at the Summit. All entries will be printed on luster paper at a size of 16x20. f/32 Photo will deliver the entries to the Summit and all participants may take the prints home with them at the end of the Summit.
-
There is no cost to enter the competition other than the cost of the print itself. Each 16x20 mounted print for competition is specially priced at $30. To eliminate the need for actual entry forms, we ask that you name each file you submit with the actual name of the image (ex. Fire_in_the_Hole.jpg). Please submit images in either sRGB or AdobeRGB colorspace. All other pertinent information needed will be obtained when you check out online. We will then include all of this information with the print when judged and displayed (although Judges will not have access to any identifying information so that everyone may remain impartial). Please choose the "pay online" option when ordering your competition prints.
-
The Categories are:
1. Landscapes, Seascapes, & Cityscapes
2. Flora and Fauna (Wildlife)
3. Water
-
Each participant may enter one image in each category for a maximum of 3 entries. You do not have to enter all categories, but you may not enter more than 1 image in each category.
-
Each entry must be a 16x20. You may enter a full bleed 16x20 image or you may add a border to your image if you wish. As long as the finished product is 16x20, all borders and digital frames are acceptable. Please keep in mind that you want any borders to compliment your image and not distract from it.
-
The print competition will be judged by the Summit instructors. There will be a winner for each category and a Best in Show winner for the entire competition. This year we are also going to add a "People's Choice" Award which means that you all get to vote on the prints! All of the winners will receive commemorative ribbons along with some fabulous prizes.
Grand Prize for Best of Show - Think Tank Urban Access 15 Camera Backpack
People's Choice Award - Mindshift Photocross Sling 13
Category Winners - Peak Design Slidelite Strap
-
There is no time frame on when the image had to be taken or restriction on where the image was taken. The only requirement is that the image was taken by the Summit participant who submitted it and that it is not an image that has previously placed as a winner in any category of previous Summit competitions. It does not matter if it was taken with a film camera, a dslr, a mirrorless camera, or even a phone, as long as you can print it as a 16x20 and not lose quality.

How to Enter the Print Competition
Directions for Submitting Images to the Summit Print Competition:
-
Click the link at the bottom of these instructions (after reading them, of course!)
-
Click on the button in the middle of the page that says "Prints, Order Online Now"
-
Click the button on the left that says "Order Photo Prints"
-
Click the "Add Photos" button and choose the files to want to load to print
-
Choose the files from wherever they are stored on your computer (many options are given on this page).
-
Once files are loaded and you see thumbnails of your images, hover over each image and select the tab to the right that says "Summit Print Competition". You will most likely have to scroll over to see that tab as it is right after "Deep Matte" as an option. It is the fifth print option tab.
-
Choose the appropriate size print based on the category in which you are entering that image and order 1 16x20 of each image that you enter.
Please note that once you choose a category for your image and click the + sign next to the category, you will see a crop box appear over the thumbnail of your image. If the image you have uploaded is already cropped to a 16x20 (a 4x5 ratio) then nothing should be cropped out of your image in this preview. If you have not cropped your image to a 4x5 ratio prior to uploading it, PLEASE BE SURE TO PLACE THE CROP BOX HOW YOU WANT THE IMAGE TO PRINT! It defaults to the middle, but you can move this around. We WILL NOT adjust this for you once we receive the image. If you have questions about this, please call us before placing your order or include a note in the comment section of the order if you are not sure you have done it correctly.
-
Follow the steps of the website through the checkout process once you have ordered all of your prints. Please pay for your prints online at checkout and select to pick images up in the store (which you will not actually be doing), DO NOT choose to have images shipped as the system will then charge you for shipping.
-
You do not have to order all of your print competition submissions at the same time, however, you may only submit one to each category.
